Earthlink Outgoing Mail Problems

THE PROBLEM:

The folks that use earthlink as their ISP Will not be able to use their SMTP server that is included with their hosting account. Your web mail account is not affected by this.  Earthlink customers must use earthlink's SMTP servers. The reason is Earthlink requires all their customers to use their SMTP. If you attempt to use your domain as your SMTP ( Simple Mail Transport Protocol ) You will get an error similar to this one.

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'your account', Server: 'www.yourdomain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

SOLUTION:

You will need to use Earthlink's SMTP mail server for all your email accounts that you create on your domain. Earthlink's mail settings for your pop is mail.earthlink.net. Earthlink's  SMTP settings are smtp.earthlink.net. No one will know the difference. The only difference doing it this way is how it is filtered through the net. The reason Earthlink does this, is so they can monitor there users, and prevent spamming. If you need more information, please contact Hosting Support

This problem does not effect users that are using Web Mail to access their email.

Mindspring Outgoing Mail Problems

Mindspring customers will not be able to use their outgoing SMTP mail servers (www.yourdomain.com) that are provided to them with their hosting account. Mindspring  blocks all outgoing email if you aren't using their own SMTP servers. If you are using your own SMTP servers you will see the following error or an error close to this one:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'youraccount', Server: 'www.yourdomain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

SOLUTION:

You will have to use Earthlink's outgoing mail servers for all of your email accounts. Earthlink's mail server is mail.earthlink.net . Your email will still be from your own domain name, the only difference is in the way it is routed throughout the Internet. Instead of being sent through our servers it is processed through Earthlink servers.

To stop spam (unsolicited, bulk e-mail) and in an effort to be a better Internet neighbor, MindSpring requires that their  customers use only MindSpring servers to send e-mail when connected to a MindSpring access number.

Acceptable SMTP Servers

You will need to use the SMTP server that corresponds to your domain as shown below.

Username@domain SMTP Server

username@mindspring.com smtp.mindspring.com
username@pipeline.com smtp.pipeline.com
username@sprynet.com smtp.sprynet.com

MSN Outgoing Mail Problems

This problem does not effect users that are using Web Mail to access their email.

PROBLEM:

MSN customers will not be able to use their outgoing SMTP mail servers (www.yourdomain.com) that are provided to them with their hosting account. MSN blocks all outgoing email if you aren't using their own SMTP servers.

SOLUTION:

You will have to use MSN's outgoing mail servers for all of your email accounts. Your email will still be from your own domain name, the only difference is in the way it is routed throughout the Internet. Instead of being sent through our servers it is processed through MSN servers. This allows MSN to monitor its users and to make sure they are not sending out SPAM. To set up MSN SMTP servers for your outgoing email you must click on your account settings in the email client you are using (Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape etc.) In the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) field you will enter your MSN SMTP server as your SMTP server. You must then enter your MSN username and password for that mail server. In Outlook Express it is at the bottom of that same tab. You will check off "My server requires authentication" and you'll click on "settings" to enter your MSN  username and password.
